한국천주교회 설립에 대한 평판 - 한국 초기 교회에 관한 자료집을 중심으로 -
하느님께서는 당신의 특별한 섭리로 인류가 신앙을 자발적으로 받아들이고, 교회를 세우도록 이끌어 가신다. 이렇게 하기 위하여 하느님께서는 당신의 뜻을 받아들일 수 있는 예지자들을 통하여 복음적 계시를 전달하신다. 우리 민족에 대한 복음 전달도 같은 양상으로 이루어졌고, 참다운 예지자를 부르시는 여정은 하느님의 섭리에 의해 이루어진 것임을 다양한 자료를 통해 알 수 있다. 한국천주교회가 형성되는 과정은 오랫동안 준비하여 완성한 하느님의 계획이고, 성령께서 특별한 예지자들을 선택하여 역사 하시는 과정이며, 이에 응답하고 열성을 다한 이들의 한국천주교회의 창립이라 할 수 있다. 그런데 이와는 달리 해석하고 바라보려는 이들도 있다. 여기서 한국교회의 창설주역과 한국천주교회 설립에 관한 평판을 찾을 수 있다. 평판에 긍정적인 이들은 조선교회는 하느님의 계시에 응답한 조선 신자들을 ‘그리스도의 증거자’로 표현하면서, 이들은 교회와 합체되기 위해 노력하였고, 합의체적으로 겸손하게 교회를 운영하였다고 하였다. 또한, 북경에 와서 세례를 받은 윤 바오로 등의 신자들이 열심한 마음과 열정으로 성사를 받는 모습에 크게 감동받았다고 전하고 있다. 이와는 반대로, 조선의 복음화는 아주 과장된 것이라는 아주 부정적인 평판이 있었다. 또한, 조선 신자들이 선교사를 영입하려는 것이 무슨 이익을 얻으려는 목적이 아닌지 의심을 품고 있는 이들이 있었다. 조선 정부 또한 천주교를 사학으로 여기고, 신자들을 인륜과 법을 말살시키고 나라에 반기를 들려는 역적의 무리로 여겼다. 한민족의 복음화에 대해 긍정적 견해를 가진 이들은 ‘성교회가 매우 기뻐할 대단한 일’, ‘기적적인 사건’, ‘아주 흥미로운 소식’, ‘건설적이고 감동적인 사건’ 등으로 표현하였다. 특별히 브뤼기에르 주교는 조선 교우들의 열성을 칭찬하며, 조선 선교의 앞날은 밝다고 전하였다. 그러나 부정적 견해를 가진 마르키니 신부는 조선의 복음화 소식에 대하여 ‘저의가 의심스러운 교회’라는 표현을 사용하였다. 또한, 조선 교회에 대한 구베아 주교의 판단은 잘못되었다고 하며, 조선의 복음화에 대해 조소(嘲笑)를 보이면서, 조선 교회를 도와주는 것을 꺼렸다. 똑같은 사건을 두고 바라보는 입장, 해석하는 방향이 다르다. 하지만 역사는 바르게 밝혀지게 된다. 현재를 살아가는 ‘나’, ‘우리교회’는 역시 ‘역사의 평가’를 받게 될 것이다. 그때 나는 어떤 자리에 있게 될 것인지를 성찰하는 것이, 바로 역사를 바로 읽는 자라고 할 수 있을 것이다.
The Reputation of the Korean Catholic Church's Foundation
God leads mankind to accept the faith with the special providence and brings sight to build Church. In order to do so, God delivers the evangelical revelation through the prophet who can receive the His will. In this way, the Gospel delivers our nation. Specially the God's way that call the true prophet knows through the Variety of materials to be made by the His providence. The process of foundation of Korea Catholic Church was the God's plan which has prepared and completed for long times, was the itinerary that the Spirit selected and leaded the special prophets, and the korean Catholic Church's foundation which founders responded and has expended great effort. But there are those who wish differently to interpret them. In this, we can look the difference the fame of the korean Catholic church's founders and of the foundation. Those who evaluated positively presented early-believers to those who responded to the God's revelation and confessed the Christ, who tried to incorporate with the Church, and who collegially and modestly operated the Church. And, they were greatly impressed by the behaviors of the korean believers who baptized in Pegging, because they received the Sacrament of the heart and passion. In contrast, There was great negative reputation which Joseon's evangelization was very exaggerated. They said that its evangelization vanishes like smoke, without sending the missionaries. There were the doubtful who Joseon faithful tried to recruit the missionaries is what profit to gain a profit or not. Also, Joseon government considered Catholic Church to malice-science, the faithful to rebels who despatched the korean morality and law, and raised the standard of revolt. Those who had positive views of the korean evangelization presented as ‘the great joyful thing of the Church’, ‘miraculous event’, ‘very exciting news’, ‘constructive and inspiring event’. Specially Bruguière bishop praised the zeal of the korean faithful, said the future of the korean mission bright. But Giovanni Battista Marchini who had the negative views of th korean Church presented ‘fundamentally suspicious Church’, said that the judge of Bruguière was wrong and sent the ridicule about korean evangelization, and was reluctant to help the korean Chruch. It is different of looking and interpreting of the same event. But history will also be shown right. ‘I’ and ‘our Church’' which are living now, is bound to be subjected to historical evaluation. To reflect myself I wonder if any in place is to read rightly the history.
