언양의 울산대곡박물관의 천주교회사 전시 기획 구도와 그 반향 - 천주교회사와 공공 역사 사이의 창의적 긴장을 위하여 -
이 연구는 2013년 언양의 울산대곡박물관에서 가졌던 천주교회사 전시회의 기획 구도와 그 반향에 대한 민족지적 접근을 목표로 삼았다. 이 전시회는 한국의 공공박물관에서는 보기 드물게 천주교회사와 그 문화를 주제로 삼았고 나아가 놀라울 정도의 반향을 불러 일으켰다. 이것은 한국의 천주교회사와 공공의 역사 사이에 가교를 놓은 중요한 사례라는 점에서, 이 전시회의 기획에 참여한 필자는 이 프로젝트의 구도와 의미를 보다 많은 연구자들과 공유하여 야 한다고 생각했다. 한편 이 전시회가 큰 성과를 거둔 배경과 관련하여 장기간에 걸친 이 지역의 천주교회사 연구 성과 외에 체계적인 지역사 연구의 축적도 거론하였다. 더불어 앞으로 한국 천주교회사 연구가 적극적인 의미를 획득하려면 신앙공동체의 경계를 넘어 지역사회 및 비천주교인과의 만남도 중요하다고 보았으며 실제로 이러한 견해를 전시회에 적극 반영하였다. 요컨대 이 전시회는 천주교회사와 공공 역사와의 만남이라는 중요한 과제를 제시하려 한 것이다. 그리하여 그 기획과 준비과정, 그리고 문제의식에 대한 증언을 자기 민족지적 접근을 통하여 분명하게 드러내려 하였다.
An ethnographic approach to project of exhibition for Kyungnam Catholic history in Ulsan Daegok Museum of 2013
This study is an ethnographic approach to project exhibition of Kyungnam Catholic history and its response. The exhibition based on the theme of Catholic history and its culture woke the unusual echoes in the community. The exhibition became a bridge which links Catholic history of Korea to public history. As a person who was deeply involved in the planning of the exhibition, I would like to share my experience and observation through the ethnographic description of the planning and meaning of this project. In connection with the background of the great success of this exhibition, this paper focused on the long-termed research results of Catholic history of this area and regional studies as well. Furthermore, for the more active study on Korean Catholic history, contact with the local community and with nonCatholics was requisite, which was reflected in the exhibition. In a word, this exhibition embodied the important issue of the meeting of history of Catholic Church with public history.
