《조선왕조실록》에 나타난 17세기 동아시아 그리스도교 -《인조실록(仁祖實錄)》을 중심으로
후대에 방대한 기록을 남기고 있는 《조선왕조실록》에는 임진왜란 이후 외교관계가 재개된 일본을 통해 17세기 이후 일본 가톨릭교회에 대해 많은 역사적 소식을 접할 수 있으며, 또 일본 그리스도교인들이 핍박을 받거나 핍박에 항거하기도 하고 국외, 특히 마카오나 중국으로 탈출하거나 거기로부터 다시금 잠입하려고 시도한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이렇게 국외로 탈출하거나 잠입하려는 그리스도인들이 한반도에 표류하게 되어 외교문제를 유발시키고 효종 때에는 이런 일로 영의정까지 귀양을 가게 되는 외교마찰이 일어나고 있다. 본 논문은 《조선왕조실록》에서 동아시아 그리스도교 역사를 처음 다루기 시작한 17세기 《인조실록》을 중심으로 그리스도교 호칭의 변화(吉利施端, 吉伊施端, 吉利是段에서 耶蘇宗文으로), 당시 일본 그리스도인들의 정황, 한·중·일 관계에 그리스도교가 끼치는 정치·외교적 영향, 《인조실록》에 묘사된 혹은 비변사가 인식하는 조선의 그리스도교인관 등에 대해 고찰해 보면서 이를 교회사적으로 재해석하려고 한다. 《인조실록》에 나타난 17세기 동아시아 그리스도교에 관한 정보 자체가 일본 쓰시마를 통해서 제한적으로 수집되고 있기 때문에 그 기록이 빈약한 것은 사실이다. 하지만 우리가 여태까지 지레짐작한 것과 달리 우리나라 조정이나 사대부들이 17세기에는 중국보다 일본으로부터 더 많은 동아시아 그리스도교에 대한 정보를 얻었음이 확실하다.
17th Century East Asian Christianity in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty - Especially in the Annals of King Injo
This article examines the 17th Century East Asian Christianity in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, especially in the Annals of King Injo. The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty are the annual records of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea, which were kept from 1413 to 1865. In one of them, the Annals of King Injo, we can get the informations on reopening of diplomatic relations between Joseon and Japan, Japanese Christians who have been persecuted and have escaped to Macao and China, uprising in Shimabara and Amakusa, and East Asian Christians who drafted into Joseon just after Japanese Invasions of Korea (1592–98). After its prohibition of Christianity and in the aftermath of the Jesuit infiltration plots in 1642 and 1943, Japan requested that in the case of any suspicious ships adirft in Joseon coastal areas, Joseon divert them to Japanese House(倭館) in Busan for transfer to Japan. In order to maintain friendly relations between the two countries, in 1644, Joseon accepted Japan’s request of Chinese vessel that drafted into Jindo. As a result, Lee Kyeongseok, Prime Minister of Joseon, went to exile. We can also find that Joseon’s officials or historians recognize East Asian Christians or Christian community at that time in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty.
