18세기 말 전라도 신앙공동체와 천주교 서적
전라도에는 조선 교회가 설립된 직후에 유항검과 윤지충에 의해 전주 와 진산에 신앙공동체가 형성되었다. 당시 전라도의 신자들은 다른 지역 의 신자들과 마찬가지로 서적을 통해 천주교에 대한 지식과 교리를 익혔 으며, 이를 토대로 신앙공동체를 형성하고 확대시켰다. 전라도 신자들은 서울과 충청도 신자들이 보았던 많은 교회 서적들 을 읽었다. 그러나 기록상 《천주실의》, 《칠극》, <십계>, <조만과(早晩課)>, 《서학범(西學凡)》 정도만 확인할 수 있다. 이 중 <십계>는 전라도 신자들의 신앙과 삶에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 이들은 <십계>의 가르침에 따라 신앙 생활을 하였고 전교활동도 펼쳤다. 그리고 이러한 활동을 통해 하늘의 영 복(永福)을 받을 수 있다고 믿었다. 신자들의 이러한 믿음은 이 시기 신자 수를 증가시킨 하나의 요인이 되었다. 신자들은 <십계>를 통해 배교해서 는 안 된다는 생각도 갖게 되었다. 그리고 이러한 인식은 박해가 일어났을 때 신자들을 순교로 이끌었다. <십계>는 신앙생활뿐만 아니라, 신자들의 일상의 삶에도 영향을 미쳤 다. <십계>(4~10계)는 신자들이 현세에서 착한 사람, 효성이 지극한 자식, 충성스런 국민, 인격을 갖춘 성숙한 인간으로 살아가도록 가르쳤고, 신자 들은 이러한 계명을 지키기 위해 최선을 다하였다.
Jeolla-do Faith community and Catholic books at the end of the 18th Century
In Jeolla-do, a community of faith was formed in Jeonju and Jinsan by Yoo Hang-gum and Yun Ji-chung at the End of the 18th Century. At that time, believers in Jeolla-do, like other area believers, learned about Catholicism through books and Based on this, the faith community was formed and expanded. Jeolla-do believers may have read many of the church books that were read by Seoul and Chungcheong-do believers. However, the books that Jeolla believers read can only be found in The True Meaning of the Lord of Heaven(天主實義), The Seven Victories(七克), The Ten Commandments(十 誡命), matins and complines(早晩課), and The Overview of Western Learning(西學凡). Of these, The Ten Commandments had a profound effect on the faith and life of Jeolla believers. They engaged in active Missionary activities in accordance with the teachings of the Ten Commandments, and believed that they could ascend to receive the heavenly blessings. As a result, the number of believers increased significantly during this period. Next, believers came to the idea that they should not apostate through the Ten Commandments. And this perception led to the martyrdom of believers when persecution arose. The Ten Commandments affected not only the life of faith but also the temporal life of believers. In other words, The Ten Commandments taught believers to live as good people, filial sons, loyal people, and mature human beings in this world, and believers did their best to keep these commandments.
