고양 용머리 신앙공동체에 대한 연구
경기도 고양 용머리 천주교 신앙공동체는 1827년 무렵에 형성되어 현 대에 이르기까지 그 명맥을 이어왔다. 이러한 사실은 서울 서강 밤섬에 살 던 김효임·김효주 자매의 가족들이 입교한 뒤 1829년 이전에 외가가 있는 용머리로 이주하여 신앙생활을 한 점과 용머리에 살던 원윤철의 가족들이 1827년 이전에 입교한 점으로 보아 알 수 있다. 1835년 말 모방 신부가 입 국했을 때 용머리 교우촌의 신자는 총 30~40명이었다. 이러한 용머리 교 우촌은 모방 신부의 사목 방문을 통해 공소로 설립되었다. 이때 공소집 주 인 김 안토니오는 공소회장으로 임명되었다. 1839년 기해박해 때 용머리 공소의 김효임·김효주 가족들이 체포되었다. 그들 중 김효임·김효주 자매 만 모진 고문에도 신앙을 굳게 지켜 순교하고 나머지 가족들은 배교하고 풀려났다. 이때 용머리 출신으로 서울에 살던 원귀임도 체포되어 신앙을 증거하고 순교했다. 체포를 면한 원윤철은 기해박해 이후에도 용머리에 서 신앙생활을 계속하면서 선교사들을 영입하는 일에 힘을 쓰는 등 교회의 지도자로 활동했다. 그러나 병인박해가 한창이던 1866년 10월 원윤철 이 생질 성연순과 함께 용머리에서 체포되어 순교하면서 용머리 신앙공동 체는 또 시련을 맞았다. 그 뒤 1886년 한불조약의 체결로 선교사들의 전교 활동이 가능하게 되면서 용머리 신앙공동체는 재건되어 1910년부터 행주 본당 소속 고양 지역 공소로 다시 모습을 드러냈으며, 현대에 이르기까지 고양 지역의 대표적인 신앙공동체로 그 명맥을 이어왔다. 그러므로 용머 리 공소는 고양 지역의 유서 깊은 신앙공동체로서 중요한 역사적 의미를 지니고 있다.
A Study on the Catholic Community in Yongmeori, Goyang
The Catholic faith community in Yongmeori, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, was formed around 1827 and has continued to exist until the present age. This can be confirmed by the following facts: the family members of the sisters Hyo-im Kim and Hyo-ju Kim, who lived in Bamseom Island in Seogang, Seoul, joined the Catholic religion and then moved before 1829 to their maternal grandparents’ in Yongmeori to live a life of faith; Yun-cheol Won’s family, who were living in Yongmeori, began to believe in the Catholic faith before 1827. At the end of 1835, when Father Pierre Philibert Maubant entered Korea, there were a total of 30-40 believers in the Catholic village of Yongmeori. The village was established as a station (‘gonso’ 公所 in Korean) by Father Maubant who made a pastoral visit to Yongmeori. At this time, Antonio Kim, the owner of the house that provided the station, was appointed chairman of the station. During the Kihae Persecution in 1839, the family members of Hyo-Im Kim and Hyo-ju Kim from the Yongmeori Station were arrested. Among them, only the sisters Hyo-im Kim and Hyo-ju Kim kept their faith firmly despite the harsh torture and were martyred. The rest of the family abjured their religion and were released. At this time, Gwiim Won who was born in Yongmeori and living in Seoul, was also arrested, and after confessing her faith, she was martyred. Yun-cheol Won, who escaped arrest, continued his Catholic practice in Yongmeori after the Kihae Persecution, serving as the leader of the church. However, in October 1866, when the Byeongin Persecution was in full swing, he was arrested along with his nephew Yeon-soon Seong and martyred in Yongmeori. This was another ordeal that the Yongmeori Catholic community had to face. Later, with the signing of ‘the France–Korea Treaty of 1886’, the missionaries were able to engage in missionary activities in Korea, and the Yongmeori Catholic community was rebuilt. From 1910 on, it has served as the station in the Goyang area under the Haengju Parish Church. Since then, it has continued its role as the representative Catholic community in the Goyang area down to the present age. Therefore, the Yongmeori Station is of great significance as a historic Catholic faith community in Goyang.
